SLOW POISON -- MSG

A very important email sent from Angela Pedlar, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta, Canada

MSG - used in Coffee.

Read this - It may change your health for the better. It is startling!!

Food additive "MSG" is a Slow Poison.

Slow Poisoning MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as "Natural Flavouring". MSG is also in your favourite Tim Horton's and other brand coffee shops!

Pass this on to those who still may be unaware or disbelieving of the dangers of MSG.

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, so did a friend of mine, John Erg. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called "The SlowPoisoning of America".

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats (and humans?) to become obese. They even have a title for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats".

I was shocked too. I went to my kitchen, checking the cupboards and the fridge. MSG was ineverything! The Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called ''Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein'', which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff.

They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who carefully read the ingredient list, so they don't catch on. (Other names forMSG: 'Accent' - 'Aginomoto' - 'Natural MeetTenderizer' etc)

But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant, even the sit down ones like TIFF, Chili's, Applebee's and Denny's use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin, their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative or a vitamin?? Not according to my friend John.

In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called "The Slow Poisoning of America" he saidthat MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.http://www.spofamerica.com/ Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG at: http://www.msgfactscom/facts/msgfact12.html explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

'Bet can't eat just one', takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight?

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added. Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance!

Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount.

How can they claim it safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these? :-
Themonosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a modelfor the study of exercise in obesity'. GobatCA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribera IA.Res Common MolPatrol Pharmacology. 2002.

Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-inducedhypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats'. Guitarist RIB, Tells MM, Coelho VB, Mori CO, Ancient CM,Ribera Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamatetreatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: ananimal model of multiple risk factors'. Iwase ME, Yamamoto ME, Iino I, Ichikawa I, ShinoharaNO, Yoshinari Fujishima Hyper Res. 1998 Mar.

Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection ofmonosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity'. Tanaka I,Shimada ME, Macao I, Kostunica Exp Neural. 1978 Oct.

Yes, that last study was not a typo, it WAS written in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about MSG's side effects for decades!

Many more studies mentioned in John Erg's book link MSG to Diabetes, Migraines and headaches, Autism, ADHD and even Alzheimer's.

But what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Even as you read this, GO. WE. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods.
Read about it for yourself at:http://www.yahoo.com/. The Bill has already been rushed through the House of Representatives, and is due for the same rubber stamp at Senate level. It is important that Bush and his corporate supporters get it through before the media lets everyone know about 'MSG, the intentional Nicotine for food'.

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada. While sitting in the Government office, the official told him "Sure Iknow how bad MSG is, I wouldn't touch the stuff!" But this top level government official refused to tell the public what he knew.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing legal issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

If you are one of the few who can still believethat MSG is good for us, and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself.

Go tothe National Library of Medicine, at http://www.pubmed.com/. Type in the words "MSGObese" and read a few of the115 medical studies that appear. We the public, do not want to be rats in one giant experiment and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottomline, while waiting for the heart transplant, diabetic induced amputation, blindness or other obesity induced, life threatening disorders.

MSG also known as glutamic acid, free glutamate, mono potassium glutamate, accent or zest. Naturally found in seawee, sea tangle, soybeans, sugar beets, but is also used as a flavor enhancing food additive. other sources include oriental foods, snack foods, mixed nuts, salted or flavored peanuts, soybeans, sugar beets, hydrolyzed proteins, gelatins, plant protein extracts, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, textured protein, autolized yeast, malt extract, malt flavoring, barley malt, boullion, stock, carrageenan, maltodextrin, whey protein, "natural flavors", meats, condiments, pickles, soups, baked good, candies, anything ultra pasteurized and anything protein fortified, enzyme modified or fermented.

Supplements reduce health care costs

With health care costs skyrocketing and the age of the population increasing, helping seniors live independently for longer is becoming increasingly important. A recent comprehensive review of existing scientific research literature found positive health effects associated with both omega-3 fatty acids and the carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin. Based on health insurance costs for the age group over 65, the five-year estimated savings resulting from daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids and lutein with zeaxanthin is approximately 5.6 billion dollars.

A recent comprehensive review of existing scientific research literature found positive health effects associated with both omega-3 fatty acids and the carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Researchers critically reviewed the scientific evidence of the two supplements' ability to reduce the risk of disease and developed estimates of potential health care savings.

With health care costs skyrocketing and the age of the population increasing, helping seniors live independently for longer is becoming increasingly important.

The group reviewed several hundred studies dating back over thirty years to arrive at an estimated cost savings of 3.1 billion dollars over the next five years with the daily use of omega-3 fatty acids.

They estimated that the reduction in coronary heart disease in the elderly population would result in 384,303 fewer hospitalizations and physician fees.

Loss of central vision caused by age-related macular degeneration results in numerous elderly becoming dependent on the community or a nursing facility.

The researchers used over 15 years of research on lutein and zeaxanthin to estimate a potential net savings of 2.5 billion dollars over the next five years.

Approximately 98,219 individuals could avoid the transition to dependence during this time through daily intake of 6-10 mg of lutein and zeaxanthin.

Soy and cruciferous vegetables reduce cancer risk by enhancing DNA repair

Nutrients found in soy and cruciferous vegetables have recently been shown to have anti-cancer activity for hormone-responsive tumors (i.e. breast and prostate cancers).

The February 13, 2006 issue of the British Journal of Cancer reported that genistein (a soy isoflavone) and indole-3-carbinol (I3C) found in vegetables such as broccoli, enhance DNA repair.

After adding increasing doses of I3C and genistein to two prostate cancer and two breast cancer cell lines, the scientists found a rise in levels of certain proteins which repair damaged DNA.

Additionally, when researchers added I3C and genistein together in low doses to the cell lines, the results were synergistic, providing greater benefit than that obtained by either compound alone.

The finding could explain, in part, the protective effect these compounds have shown against some cancers. The study is also among the first to discover a cellular explanation behind the ability of increased vegetable intake to reduce the risk of cancer.

The Power of One-on-One - Denis Waitley

The secret to being a good role model and mentor is in finding out what others want and helping them succeed.

The secret to being a good and wise communicator is the patient listening for those desires in others, and also in learning from the experiences of others by questioning and listening thoroughly, so that we may learn from their successes and failures.

Frank Sinatra learned his superb breath control in singing from his first band leader, Tommy Dorsey. In large part, the person Helen Keller became was because of Anne Sullivan. Plato learned from Socrates. Jesse Owens credits his winning of the long jump in the 1936 Olympics to a tip given to him by his top German competitor, Luz Long. In the middle of the event, after Owens had already fouled twice on takeoff, Long gave Owens a helpful hint on how to correct his takeoff point. The result was a record breaking leap of over 26 feet which stood for more than twenty years.

Artists have always learned more from observing other artists than from going to classes or observing nature. In a sense, you and I are master artists who have the opportunity to breathe new colors, shading and perspective into the lives of other artists who are struggling with their oils, brushes and canvases.

Think back to the people who have had the most influence on you. You will likely find that they have been people who really cared about you -- your parents, a great teacher, a coach, business associate, a good friend -- someone who was interested in you.

The only people you will influence to any great degree will be the people you care about. When you are with people you care for, their interests -- rather than your own -- will be uppermost in your mind.

Our success in getting along with others and communicating effectively with them depends solely upon our ability to recognize their desires and needs, and help them fill those desires and needs with positive actions.

In the communication process, knowledge is not always wisdom; sensitivity is not always accuracy and sympathy is not always understanding.

All customer service and the ability to gain trust and repeat business is based on empathy.

Empathy is "feeling with" and never assuming anything until you have "walked a mile in the other person's moccasins." Since it is impossible to know the road another has walked, the best alternative is to ask questions with interest and respect, and listen for the hidden agendas and desires.

In this way, you can be a Renoir to the next Monet

Take a Proactive Approach to Your Health by Denis Waitley

Think of your body as a high-powered, finely engineered transportation vehicle, like a space shuttle. Instead of liquid hydrogen, your body is powered by your own intake. The food you eat is the fuel that energizes the vehicle. What you put in your fuel tank is burned by your high performance activity or - in the case of low-octane, junk food - is deposited in your engine.

Think of your mind as the driver who takes control of and steers your body to victory or hits the wall. Your body is very much like a car. Drive it without proper fuel or maintenance and it will fall apart. You take it for granted to get you where you want to go, until it breaks down. Then it disrupts your way of life.

Like your car, your body only speaks to you by exception. You only notice it when it is damaged or inoperative. But, unlike your car, the spare parts business for your body is not a viable option at present.

To combat disease and aging, you need to keep your bones, joints and muscles flexible and strong. The right exercise means weight-bearing exercise, not simply aerobics.

The International College of Sports Medicine has now added exercise with weights to its long-time recommendation of aerobic exercise.

First, check with your physician who can assess your general condition and advise you about healthy levels of activity. Second, be aware that the effectiveness of exercise depends as much on enjoyment as on the nature of activity itself.

Just as important, if not more important than daily exercise, is proper nutrition. What you eat has a major impact on degenerative diseases. Do eat a low fat diet. Keep your fat intake to 15 percent of all daily calories. This will keep you lean and boost your immunity.

Do eat a low salt diet. Use a potassium-based salt substitute on the table and in cooking.

Do eat a high-fiber diet. Fiber protects the colon from cancer, lowers cholesterol and stabilizes blood sugar. Eat 40 to 50 grams of mixed fibers daily, as in whole grain breads and cereals, especially those containing oat bran, vegetables and fruits.

Do eat a low-sugar diet. Use a little fructose in place of table sugar. Eat complex carbohydrates in place of sugar and look for carbohydrate drinks sweetened with zylitol.

Do drink clean water. Drink bottled or home-distilled water, as much as eight glasses per day.

Do eat an alkaline diet. Our high-fat, high-sugar diet creates acidity. So many people are now acidic that we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on antacids every year.

Do take daily nutritional supplements including essential multi-vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Current research confirms that we can no longer get the essential nutrients from our food alone. We must supplement even the best diet with nutrition to promote resistance to disease.

Do eat the right kinds of foods and stay away from the fast-food, fat-food drive-throughs. You are doing yourself and your children a dangerous, long-term disservice by developing the habit of eating high-fat, nutrition-poor meals.

Make your health your top priority. You can't buy your health or life back after years of neglecting it while you earn your living.

Action Idea: List one activity you will begin to do tomorrow to improve your health and increase the quality and quantity of your life.

9 Qualities of a Good Communicator

Being successful in Network Marketing is all about being a successful COMMUNICATOR!

Here are the 9 qualities of a good communicator according to expert Tim Sales...

1. Be interested! Focus on your prospect and ask them questions about themselves

2. Don't be distracted by anyone or anything else in the room.

3. Make sure your facial expressions are sincere and friendly. Maintain comfortable eye contact - don't stare them down but don't look somewhere else either.

4. Use the right amount of assertiveness. You want to educate your prospect without lecturing.

5. Communicate easily. Be comfortable, know your subject.

6. Make sure your body doesn't distract from the presentation. Be mindful of what you are wearing and how you smell. Bad breath is a number 1 turnoff and distractor from what you have to say!

7. Tell the truth! And keep your word - if you say you will get them some more information - make sure you follow through.

8. Know what you are talking about. Just as an actor practises their script many times - you need to do the same with your business - know your products and business plan.

9. Communicate at the prospects level. Talking to a doctor about USANA will be different than talking to a student. Make sure you are prepared to adapt to who you are talking to.

Remember - it's not about us. All people are tuned into that classic radio station - WIIFM - What's In It For Me - so make sure they know what the benefit to THEM is!

Mediterranean Diet Protects Kids From Allergies: Study

A Mediterranean-style diet loaded with fruits, vegetables and nuts may help prevent allergic rhinitis and asthma symptoms in youngsters, a British study suggests.

Researchers at the National Heart and Lung Institute, London, looked at almost 700 children, ages 7 to 18, on the Greek island of Crete. Their parents filled out questionnaires on their children's eating habits and on their allergy and asthma symptoms.

Eight out of 10 children in the study ate fresh fruit and more than two-thirds of them ate fresh vegetables, at least twice a day. Diet appeared to have the strongest protective effect against allergic rhinitis but also helped protect children against asthma and skin allergies, the study found.

Children who ate nuts at least three times a week were also less likely to wheeze. The researchers noted that nuts are rich in vitamin E, which protects against cellular damage caused by free radicals. Nuts also contain high levels of magnesium, which may protect against asthma and improve lung power.

The study also found that a daily diet of oranges, apples, and tomatoes protected children against wheezing and allergic rhinitis. Grapes appeared to be especially effective in preventing wheezing and allergic rhinitis. Red grape skins contain high levels of antioxidants and a potent polyphenol called resveratrol, which is known to reduce inflammatory activity, the researchers said.

They also found that eating lots of margarine doubled the risk of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

The study was published in the journal Thorax.
